UC Trip Insurance (for business and academic travel)

Students, trainees and residents traveling for academic reasons (research, rotations, practicums, and conference presentations on UCSF research) must register for UC Trip Insurance (for business and academic travel). UC Trip Insurance covers travelers worldwide 24/7. This includes 14 days of personal travel before or after your academic travel. This coverage is provided at no cost to travelers.

UC Travel Insurance may not include coverage for some types of travel and certain situations. Please read the UC Business Travel Benefits Summary or the UC Student Off-Campus Travel Benefit Summary carefully. https://www.ucop.edu/risk-services-travel/index.html

Student Travel Insurance for Personal Travel

If you have SHIP

In addition to the UC Trip Insurance (for business and academic travel) - see above - students, trainees and residents enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) also have travel coverage for personal travel through Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core. For more information, click here. The SHIP covers a variety of travel immunizations which can be obtained from Student Health.

If you don’t have SHIP

Students and trainees not covered by SHIP, who are traveling for personal reasons, or adding more than 14 days of personal travel to an academic trip may now purchase discounted personal travel insurance with similar benefits as the UC Trip Insurance (for business and academic travel) through the UC Personal Travel Insurance Program. You may also use another vender but make sure you purchase international travel insurance.
